Sound healing is a return to ancient cultural practices that used chants/songs, instruments, chimes, singing bowls, and other auditory elements to restore health, mental grounding and relieve pain. It is often introduced at mind-body or wellness festivals, and has been a growing trend for many years.
Mindbodygreen.com states “Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. Whether through the use of mantras as with the Hindis, the Icaros (medicine melodies) of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or Pythagoras’ use of interval and frequency, these various techniques all have the same intention: to move us from a place of imbalance to a place of balance.”
What is a Sound Journey Experience?
The sound journey experience can integrate sound healing techniques, shamanic journey techniques, ceremony and more, depending on the practitioners direction and skills. These experiences are one of a kind, and are rarely rehearsed, each defined by the aspects of that given moment in time. Some facilitators will only use singing bowls and voice to create the experience, others integrate numerous instruments/cultural practices/unique perspectives to create the experience.
Archaic Roots hosts a wide range of sound healers from across the region. We love to integrate other practitioners from the numerous facets of the sound healing community. Each facilitator has their own distinct fingerprint they offer, so including various practitioners was a easy choice.
“ A person does not hear sound only through the ears; he hears sound through every pore of his body. It permeates the entire being, and according to its particular influence either slows or quickens the rhythm of the blood circulation; it either wakens or soothes the nervous system. It arouses a person to greater passions or it calms him by bringing him peace. According to the sound and its influence a certain effect is produced. Sound becomes visible in the form of radiance. This shows that the same energy which goes into the form of sound before being visible is absorbed by the physical body. In that way the physical body recuperates and becomes charged with new magnetism.” Hazrat Inayat Khan, Mysticism of Sound
An artist and intuitive all of his life, and sound healing integrates both of those major talents. From an early age his intuition and empathic abilities were very evident. As a teenager he was introduced to African & Native American drumming and indigenous perspectives. Developing those interests into a passion for drums and sound; including drum building and repair, and building other indigenous instruments such as flutes, ocarinas and didgeridoos, throughout the rest of his life.
Educating youth at local schools and other groups on ethnic instruments and facilitating drum circles, directed his path into the healing aspects of sound. Lead by the drum for over 15 years, the ceremonial use of sound for healing, and his ancestors, his passion turned a corner into healing techniques utilizing vibrations from a number of instruments. He includes a world and culture crossing collection of instruments into his sound journeys, building each unique session as the experience unfolds organically.
